Love your leftovers: feast smart, waste less. The 'Love your leftovers: feast smart, waste less' campaign points out that overbuying and overcooking contribute to 16 million tonnes of annual CO2 emissions and cost the average UK household of four about £1,000 yearly. To illustrate the problem, the campaign uses 'Most Wanted' posters featuring frequently wasted foods.
The initiative offers practical advice to help families reduce waste. Key tips focus on 'magical meal planning,' recommending the use of a Food Portion Calculator to buy the right amounts, and 'festive food storage' guidelines. These include storing potatoes and most uncut vegetables in the fridge at 5°C and correctly interpreting 'best before' versus 'use by' dates. By transforming 'Gobbler McGee' into new meals like turkey curry and utilising food waste recycling, the campaign aims to help households save money and protect the planet's resources.
