Zorba scrap processor Zorbatek joins Alupro. Zorbatek, an Ellesmere Port-based aluminium recycler, has joined Alupro. The family-run company processes zorba, a mixed non-ferrous scrap stream of which more than 25,000 tonnes is produced annually in the UK, and has plans to scale into a round-the-clock operation.
Roy Bellis, site manager at Zorbatek, said: “We specialise in taking this material and turning it into a valuable product. If businesses like ours didn’t exist, these materials would be landfilled despite being 100% recyclable.” The company, which is ISO9001 accredited, has invested more than £5m in its processing facility and said it intends to expand both its workforce and technical capacity.
A Lancashire plastics company and its director have been fined a combined £142,114 for illegally exporting contaminated waste to Malaysia. 3R Technology UK Ltd, based in Preston, pleaded guilty to 16 offences at Preston Magistrates’ Court, including shipping waste misrepresented as clean plastic.
Veolia has appointed Richard Kirkman as CEO for Northern Europe and head of its UK business, effective 2 April 2026. Kirkman, who spent 26 years with Veolia in the UK before leading its Australia and New Zealand operations, replaces Gavin Graveson, who moves to head the Asia Pacific zone.
Reconomy has acquired Waste Disposal Solutions of North Carolina through its Lincoln Waste Solutions platform, marking its ninth acquisition in North America. Founded in 1996, WDS provides outsourced waste management and recycling services to construction, logistics and manufacturing customers.
