British Glass calls for pause on Welsh DRS glass inclusion. British Glass has called for a pause in the legislative process for Wales’s deposit return scheme, which proposes to include glass beverage packaging from October 2027. The trade body says key questions remain unanswered on producer costs and how the scheme will interact with pEPR.
Glass containers in the Welsh DRS would carry a zero pence deposit until October 2031, during which time no revenue from unredeemed deposits would be available. British Glass warns this could mean producers pay twice if DRS and kerbside collection systems are not aligned. The organisation has raised its concerns with the Senedd Climate Change, Environment and Infrastructure Committee and the Legislation, Justice and Constitution Committee.
A Lancashire plastics company and its director have been fined a combined £142,114 for illegally exporting contaminated waste to Malaysia. 3R Technology UK Ltd, based in Preston, pleaded guilty to 16 offences at Preston Magistrates’ Court, including shipping waste misrepresented as clean plastic.
Veolia has appointed Richard Kirkman as CEO for Northern Europe and head of its UK business, effective 2 April 2026. Kirkman, who spent 26 years with Veolia in the UK before leading its Australia and New Zealand operations, replaces Gavin Graveson, who moves to head the Asia Pacific zone.
Reconomy has acquired Waste Disposal Solutions of North Carolina through its Lincoln Waste Solutions platform, marking its ninth acquisition in North America. Founded in 1996, WDS provides outsourced waste management and recycling services to construction, logistics and manufacturing customers.
