AMCS continues expansion with Senddr acquisition

AMCS, providers of integrated software and vehicle technology for the waste, recycling and resource management sector, yesterday (8 May) finalised the acquisition of the Dublin-based software developer Senddr, prior to the launch of its new digital engagement platform.

The top brass at Limerick-based AMCS, which provides solutions including board weighing, mobile, analytics and route optimisation, hope that the experience and skills in process automation brought by Senddr, founded in Dublin in 2012 by brothers Morgan and Malcolm Lynch, will help improve AMCS’s online customer service platform.

The platform will be used to facilitate greater communication between waste operators and their customers with an automated and streamlined contact service, reducing costs and allowing customers to contact their waste provider however suits them best.

AMCS says it will launch a new digital engagement platform that enables operators to better service customers and build stronger relationships through social media, digital assistants and connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jimmy Martin, CEO of AMCS, said: “The Waste and Recycling industry is facing a major challenge to digitise their businesses, sell services online and interact with customers and subcontractors in the digital world.

“Senddr’s offering includes an extensible Cloud Suite that we will incorporate in the AMCS platform. This will enable waste operators to rapidly deploy online services, offer a secure automated payment channel and provide a workspace to interact with subcontractors online. The Senddr acquisition is a strategic and significant investment for AMCS that will further accelerate innovation in the waste and recycling industry.”

Morgan Lynch, CEO of Senddr, added: “We are delighted to join forces with a company as innovative as AMCS and bring our cutting-edge solutions to a global market. With this natural synergy we are ideally placed to drive process efficiencies in the waste and recycling industry.”

In September last year, the AMCS group acquired GMT Europe, a fellow supplier of software and vehicle technology for the waste industry, from the Dutch investment company Nedvest.

The acquisition extended AMCS’s geographical coverage across 22 countries, employing 350 staff across Western and Northern Europe, North America and Australasia.

How will the government and DMOs address the challenges of including glass in DRS while ensuring a level playing field across the UK?

There's no easy solution to include glass in the DRS while maintaining a level playing field. Potential approaches include a phased introduction of glass, potentially with higher deposits to reflect its logistical challenges. The government and DMOs could incentivise innovation in glass packaging design and subsidise dedicated return points for glass-handling. Exemptions for smaller businesses unable to handle glass might also be necessary. Any successful solution will likely blend several approaches. It must address the differing priorities of devolved administrations, balance environmental benefits with logistical and cost implications, and be supported by robust consumer education campaigns emphasizing the importance of glass recycling.
